Flood and Sewage Treatment

For minor flood and sewage clean up, Protect offers a superior product to help eliminate the problems caused by flood waters or sewage back up. Whenever you have had flood or sewage water in your carpets it is critically important to remove the water as soon as possible. Then treat it with a powerful disinfectant to prevent mold and mildew from developing in or under the carpet, killing the dangerous bacteria from sewage water, and preventing the spreading or growth of these problems.
   

For flood damage from a clean water source,
such as a sink, bath tub or sprinklers system that uses culinary water, mix Protects Flood and Sewage Disinfectant in a 1:8 ratio with water. Saturate all affected areas and allow at least 10 minutes contact time before extracting with warm water. Once you have removed as much water as possible and extracted out the disinfectant, it is very important that the carpet dries as quickly as possible. Using a powerful fan or air mover dry the carpet, both top and bottom , as soon as possible. In severe cases it may necessary to pull up the carpet, remove and replace pad and tack strip. Then dry with fan or air mover. Once the carpet is dry, clean carpets as usual using the Protect Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner. (click here for detailed instructions on flood restoration )

For sewage or non-culinary water clean up,
Such as toilets, septic tanks, river water or irrigation water, mix Protects Flood and Sewage Disinfectant in a 1:4 ratio with warm water. Saturate all affected areas thoroughly. Allow a minimum of 20 minutes contact time. Then extract all affected areas with warm water. Once you have removed as much water as possible and extracted out the disinfectant, clean the carpets as usual with Protects Carpet Cleaner. This will remove any remaining dirt, soil and sewage. Once clean, apply another light application of the disinfectant to the carpet. After that, it is very important that the carpet then dries as quickly as possible. Using a powerful fan or air mover dry the carpet, both top and bottom , as soon as possible. In severe cases it may necessary to pull up the carpet, remove and replace pad and tack strip.
